Whomever has the most followers wins! On your mark. Get set. Go to hell.
A humorous episode about ordering 500 custom stickers ("slaps"), spending $300, and then being stood up by the friend who promised to post them around town.
The hosts riff on modern self-promotion, the con-like industry pushing followers for pay, and why the internet should build community instead of follower counts.
Ends with a tongue-in-cheek plea for help putting the stickers up—and a reminder to choose meaningful connection over chasing numbers.

0:49 So, a friend of mine said there's this thing called slaps. They are stickers that you can get ordered custom. And then he said that then you put them around town by, you know, you slap them up onto things, which I'm sure is terrifying. So I'm like, okay. That's a tough job. And then he said, well, I can totally do it for you.
1:30 And I was like, wow, really? I mean, honestly, you could like, because there's 500 of them. Totally. And I was like, all right. That would be awesome. And so we ordered these guys, which cost $300. And they arrived. And I texted him and I said, hey, they arrived. They arrived. And no response. He did say something. He said, um, oh, I'm not sure exactly what the text was, but more or less what the text was saying was, hey, on the right side, if they don't get put up, at least you won't have to pay me.
2:28 So, looks like I'm out. $300. Anybody want some stickers? YouTube channel, Maddie and John, Andersonville298. Check out our podcast with a little funny smiling face and a QR code that takes you to, our YouTube channel so you can watch some of our podcast videos. But they're going to be sitting in this box right here. Because I guess the kind of people that will take the time to do that kind of a project walk all over the city, and put these stickers on bus stops and telephone those kind of people are also the kind of people that are subject to you know I'm just not in the mood to do it right now just not in the mood to do it right now, I tell ya.
3:30 I cannot believe that at my age, I can't judge them for that because, wow, have I done that in the past. It's a very artistic way of feeling towards life, you know. I'm just, just don't dig it. I'm just not into it. It's just not me right now. I just can't do it. Yeah i'm not feeling it uh maybe another time all right but i'm just gonna have to back out and say nah that's a hard no. Which is totally cool unless you're the person on the other end who spent 300 fucking dollars to buy the stickers that they're not, they're not sure they feel like putting them up.
4:26 And then you're afraid because if they did put them up, wouldn't you be liable for, you know, the littering? Because it is kind of littering. So shouldn't I be happy that they're not out there because that's just more garbage in the world? But I say, I don't know how to do this, you know? How do you promote yourself without being just more garbage out in the world? Watch me, not them. I'm better. Whoa whoa i mean i don't even have a clue where to start doing this stuff and in a way i'm kind of happy i don't, you know because man, what has it turned into i'm not sure i don't know i don't have a clue i do know that there are a lot of people out there though vying for your dollar to help support you promote that which you are doing.
5:24 We have a million kazillion ways to help you earn money doing that. We'll get it out there for you and make sure people hear the word of you. And it's only going to cost you blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. There's a million, zillion of those out there. And the reason I'm speaking that way isn't, is because the con is on. The con is on. There are so many cons out there on the internet that are saying we will help you publish, promote, produce, advertise, get it known, put it on social media, have it released, make sure you have it all together before you try and go out for that extra something.
6:18 We're going to get behind the scenes and make sure you have a qualified website and some sort of program put together to discuss who exactly you should get into contact with. What people that are really well known in the industry, and by that I mean on social platforms who have a lot of followers, do we want to put you in touch with? Because that's what it's all about, you know. You want to become one of those people with lots of followers, so we're going to put you in touch with someone who has lots of followers, so that you can have lots of followers.
6:59 And all you have to do is pay us a certain amount, and we'll get you in touch for them, and hey, after that, it's all up to you to convince that person with lots of followers, to give you a moment to promote your shit so that maybe you'll get lots of followers, so that someday people will pay you money, so that they can get on your show, so that they can promote people, so they can get lots of followers. The fuck? That's the system? Woo! Can't get any better? Listen, the internet moves fast.
7:41 I'm just saying, if that's the system, somebody please come up with a better one. Because we'll follow. And when we follow, we are really good at leaving behind those that are deserving of being left behind. This is really weird right now, you guys. This doesn't represent community. The internet is supposed to bring community to people. It's supposed to bring us together. It's not supposed to make us fight for lots of followers. It's not supposed to get us to invest our retirement savings into figuring out how to get lots of followers.
8:25 It's a community. We just want to say, hey, we're out here. Look what we're doing. Maybe it's interesting. We're going to try to be entertaining. We're going to put everything we have into it. We're going to work hard, but we're also going to be artistic, and we're going to have an opinion. And... Maybe that energy is worth following. Maybe there's a direction that we're trying to push, and maybe other people are trying to push the direction that way, and maybe it's a good thing. The Internet is capable of extraordinary feats. It can make a community instantly, overnight. It can make a community respond instantly, overnight.
9:08 It is capable of change at such a rapid pace. And that is extraordinary because change has taken too long. So I'm saying, the end result of this thing called the Internet and social media shouldn't be followers. How many followers can you get? The end result should be community. Yay! Who's got a voice I can support? I'll follow them.
9:48 Who's got a vision that I agree with? I'll follow them. Who's having fun? Who's being crazy? Who's introducing me to something new? Who's making me think? You know, that's what I'm looking for. That's what excites me. All right? So, listen. Oh, you guys. If you know someone out there, or maybe you're willing to. Maybe you need a couple extra bucks.
10:30 Can you help me put these out all over? I've only got 500. We pay good wages. And by we, I mean me, cash under the table. Sorry, sorry, I'm kidding. We're going to pay taxes and be legit. Absolutely. Have a good one bye.
